As we finish May 2020 and enter into Summer, here's what has been inspiring me at the studio. This instalment, as always, focuses on sharing tools to inspire you, help you create change in a world where we need to learn to thrive again.
REGENERATION | What does ‘regeneration’ mean and why is it time to ditch ‘sustainability’? The Vivobarefoot Regeneration Broadcast titled “SUSTAIN THIS” is a series of podcasts that explores what Regenerative thinking, living and more means. It is hosted by Emma Foster-Geering, Vivobarefoot’s head of sustainability. It features guests with a range of expertise from activism to leadership to science, providing knowledge on building a new paradigm for a healthier Earth.

FOOTWEAR | NIKE Survivalism: What is ISPA? “Improvise,” “Scavenge,” “Protect,” “Adapt” isn’t Nike’s latest product, it’s a four-pronged design system and mindset. ISPA was developed by a global team who have studied everything from living in huge cities to suffering long commutes to the difficulties of climate change. - 32c Magazine
GENZ | The VICE Guide to 2030 is an interactive report featuring Gen Z readers after interviewing hundreds of VICE readers between the ages of 16 and 22, asking what they care about most and how they’d like to see things change in the future. - VICE
DIGITAL ART | Ziyang Wu @ziyang_wu_art is a NY based artist, born and raised in Xuzhou, China. He self describes his digital art as “post-internet micro-alienation”. His work investigates as quoted in a great @itsnicethat article “contemporary technology, digital power structures, popular culture, the dynamics between identity and community, as well as the alienation of an individual’s spirit and body.”- IT’S NICE THAT
FASHION CALENDAR | Following on from Yves Saint Laurent rejecting the traditional calendar of shows and collections, Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s Creative director has now announced Gucci will pull out from the calendar as well and is calling for an industry wide review. This shows a growing bid by large brands to reclaim fashion’s creative model as well as align with global climate and wellness imperatives.
FASHION SUPPLY CHAIN | Many fashion brands have little insight into the working conditions at their factories. New research from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations found a variety of problems in the fashion supply chain proving why it is so hard to find clothing that’s ethically made. - Fast Company
MEND & MAKE DO | With Gen Z under lockdown, DIY fashion is taking off according to a recent report by Vogue Business. The younger generation is increasingly focused on customising, upcycling and reconstructing their clothes amid Covid-19 with a rise seen in resale and increased consumption of DIY clothing supplies.
